NORTH END - MICHIGAN CITY, INDIANA

The Mayor’s Office of the City of Michigan City, Indiana has obtained the services of Andrews University’s School of Architecture to put forward urban design proposals for the city’s North End. Beginning in September, the School’s Urban Design Studio will study and evaluate existing conditions and public policies in order to generate design and regulatory solutions which can assist in the city’s redevelopment efforts. Ultimately, this collaborative project seeks to provide visionary but realistic redevelopment proposals which can be supported by its citizens and marketed for future redevelopment purposes.

The study area for this project is roughly defined by Lake Michigan, Trail Creek, Greene Street and the Conrail RR tracks. As specifically requested by Mayor Chuck Oberlie, the study area also includes the Franklin Street, Michigan Boulevard (US35) and US12 corridors leading in and out of the North End.
